Avonlea's Birth Story

I was 2 days after my due date and getting ready to go to the hospital to be induced.  I was nervous, excited, and honestly just ready to not be pregnant anymore.  I delivered Joshua early and so I figured I would with baby girl as well.  Early on in my pregnancy my doctor and I had talked about inducing me early because I was told I couldn't deliver a big baby but she changed her mind because I had measured small at some appointments and because of my low weight gain.  So here we were, February 21, 2011 walking into the hospital at 9:30AM.

After getting setting up and answering all kinds of questions, they started me on pitocin at about 10:30AM. I was nervous to get it because I've heard how hard contractions can come but they started out with a minimal amount.  I felt pretty comfortable and loved having Kevin, my mom, and Joshua in the room with me.  My nurse was amazing also.  I told her how fast my labor was with Joshua and so she said she wanted me to get my epidural soon so there was no chancing it.  Best news ever!  I am the biggest advocate of epidurals.

The nurse checked me at about noon and still no progress.  I was at a 2 like I had been for weeks.  I was anxious for my water to break but my doctor couldn't come until later to do it.  At 12:30 the anesthesiologist came in and I got my epidural.

At 1:30, Doctor Stuhldreher broke my water.  She checked me then and I was a 2 1/2.  The nurse came in an hour later and I was a 6.  At 3:30, I was an 8.  Finally, things were rolling.  I knew if they could have broken my water first thing, I could've had baby girl by 1PM.  I was all ready to push and deliver at 5PM but my doctor was tied up and couldn't come in.  So, they had me sit up and just wait.  I didn't feel any pain but I definitely felt pressure.  It was a weird feeling.  Not to mention disappointing.  We were so ready to meet the babe and it was hard to wait.

Finally the doctor came in at about 6PM.  Four sets of pushes later and out came baby girl!  Such an easy delivery.  Everything went perfectly!  She was healthy, beautiful, and surprisingly big at 7lbs 4oz.  We are so in love with both of our babies!
